Atong Valenciano is a Filipino contemporary artist recognized for his long‑running “Atong” series, a body of work presented through more than twenty solo exhibitions. These shows—titled Atong I through Atong XX traveled widely, reaching venues such as Gallery 8; Bergamot Station in Santa Monica, California (2000); the Harrison Gallery at the Seattle Center House in Washington; the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C.; the Philippine Center in New York; and the Cube Gallery at the Schine Student Center of Syracuse University, all of which hosted the series in 1994.
Valenciano also maintained a strong exhibition presence in the Philippines. He held multiple solo shows at the Ayala Museum in 1993, 1998, 1999, and 2001, and earlier exhibitions at Museo Iloilo in 1991, 1992, and 1997. His work appeared in numerous group shows as well, including exhibitions at Galerie Ched in the Ayala Center, Micaller Art Gallery in Metro Manila, the NCCA‑sponsored Art Manila exhibition in 1991, and an international group show at Donatello Studios in Piazza Donatello, Florence, Italy in 1995.
Across these decades of activity, Valenciano built a career defined by sustained experimentation, consistent visibility, and a personal visual language that evolved through each installment of the “Atong” series. His work reflects both the breadth of his travels and the depth of his commitment to contemporary Filipino art.
