Abdulmari “Toym” de Leon Imao, Jr. is a Filipino sculptor, visual artist, and educator whose monumental works blend heritage, history, and contemporary social commentary. The son of National Artist for Sculpture Abdulmari Asia Imao, he has carried forward his father’s legacy while forging his own distinct artistic path.
Toym Imao graduated with a BS Architecture from the University of the Philippines, and later pursued advanced studies in sculpture abroad. He is adept in the lost wax technique, which he has applied to numerous large‑scale bronze monuments across the Philippines and internationally.
Among his most notable works are:
Monumento Fernandino in San Fernando, Pampanga
Fifth US Cavalry and the Philippine Revolutionary Monument in Clark
Cordillera Freedom Monument in Baguio City
Touch Me Not in Vietnam
Gen. Servillano Aquino on Horseback in Tarlac City
Gregorio Aglipay in Batac
St. La Salle at De La Salle University in Canlubang
He also recently created a modern sculpture of National Artist Leandro Locsin, honoring the architect’s legacy. His largest undertaking to date is the monumental Andres Bonifacio Shrine at the execution site of the hero in Maragondon, Cavite, a landmark that embodies both historical memory and national pride.
