Edgar Doctor is a Filipino painter, draftsman, and sculptor whose career spans multiple media and international recognition. He studied Fine Arts at the University of Santo Tomas, where he developed the foundation for his versatile practice.
Doctor works in watercolor, oil, acrylic, mixed media, and sculpture, producing pieces that range from figurative to abstract, always marked by expressive energy and technical mastery. His early career was distinguished by major awards: he won First Prize for “Rizal Monument” at the 1964 Shell National Students Art Competition (NSAC), and several prizes from the Art Association of the Philippines (AAP), including the 1972 Grand Prize for “Economic Aggression.” His sculpture “Metropolis #2” was named Best Entry by the Society of Philippine Sculptors during its 1971 annual exhibition.
Doctor’s works have been exhibited internationally, affirming his stature in the global art community. He participated in the International Exhibition of Drawings at the Triennial in New Delhi (1978), the Festival de la Peinture in Cagnes‑sur‑Mer, France, and the VIII Biennial of Fine Arts in Valparaíso, Chile (1985). His art has also been shown at the Philippine Center New York, where it was presented alongside fellow Filipino artists.
