Pepito Villaluz

Pepito Villaluz was a master watercolorist whose art captured the soul of Angono, Rizal the town often hailed as the “Art Capital of the Philippines.” Known for his meticulous technique and emotional depth, Villaluz worked in what many consider the most demanding medium: watercolor. Through it, he rendered vivid, lifelike scenes of old Angono, preserving its quiet streets, ancestral homes, and everyday rituals with clarity and care.

His works were deeply rooted in memory and place. Villaluz painted not just what he saw, but what he remembered moments from a bygone era, infused with nostalgia and cultural pride. His style combined realism with warmth, often highlighting the textures of wood, stone, and foliage with remarkable precision.

Villaluz was a fixture in Angono’s vibrant art community, participating in group exhibitions like Bayanihan: A Convergence of Angono’s Art Expressions, where his work stood alongside those of fellow local masters. He was admired not only for his technical skill but for his humility and dedication to the craft.

He passed away in October 2022 at the age of 80, leaving behind a body of work that continues to inspire younger generations of artists. His legacy lives on in the murals, galleries, and memories of Angono—a town shaped in part by his brush.
