Lilian B. Hwang is a Filipino painter and art educator whose career bridges Philippine traditions and contemporary practice. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of the Philippines, and was a protégé of Rodolfo Paras Perez, one of the country’s leading modernists.
Hwang is known for her expressive paintings, often exploring themes of spirituality, identity, and cultural memory. Her confident brushwork and harmonious use of color reflect both figurative and abstract sensibilities.
She exhibited at Gerie Bleau and the Cultural Center of the Philippines during the 1970s and 1980s, affirming her place among the country’s active contemporary artists of the period. She also participated in the inter‑gallery exhibition “Ugat Suri”, organized by the ASEAN Institute of Art in Manila, which highlighted the evolving dialogue among Southeast Asian artists.
